Female, 60 yrs
Case history
Female patient aged 60 years. The patient had a missing lower right central (41). This tooth was replaced with a removable one tooth partial denture which the patient was unable to wear. The patient lost the tooth because of periodontal disease. The patient heard from another patient about the fibre technology and decided to visit the dental surgery for an opinion. All relevant factors and treatment options were discussed and the patient requested me to replace the missing 41 with fibre splint and a tooth added to the splint. The other lower anterior teeth were mobile and the periodontal splint would be a perfect way to stabilize these teeth. The splint would also be an ideal fibre frame onto which the pontic, to replace the missing 41, could be built up.
Treatment
Rubber dam was placed and a trench preparation was prepared on the lingual aspect from the 32 to the 43, just above the cingulae of the lower anteriors. A periodontal fibre, everStick Perio was bonded into position in the trench. The pontic was then built up onto the fibre layer by layer. Grey transparent composite was used on the incisal edge to obtain a more natural appearance of the tooth. The result was good and the aesthetics of the composite tooth were much better than the porcelain veneer crown on the 12. The patient was very pleased with the end result.
